Lorgnette

The French term face a main described all glasses which were worn neither on the nose nor in direct contact with the face.
Many versions were made and evade famous; amongst these, we remember those called, although mistakenly but over time well known as Lorgnette: sophisticated glasses, very popular in the XIX Century, behind which upper society women of the era would hide and observe the frivolus world which surrounded them.
Other examples of Lorgnettes are small pendant glasses, in gold or silver, inlayed with precious stones, which adorned the neck of these Venetian society ladies in the late 1700's. Moreover, the Scissor Lorgnette made its appearance of French production, named for its particular shape. These glasses, which accompanied the very wealthy for more than 80 years, is still seductive today due to the grace of tese 1700 and early 1800 creations as well as for the sober elegance of creations made around the middle of the XIX century.
